Default help with cleaning

I recently purchased an '89 Banshee. It runs great and fast. It has many modifications and there is some rust on the pipes and needs a good cleaning. How should I go about cleaning and removing rust?

Id try Very lighty sanding it with 2500 sand paper or steel wool, that way it will take off the rust but wont make your pipes look like $hit

Use some CLR, you can get it at just about any store, then rub it with some fine steel wool that sould do it, and to protect it u can get some high heat clear coat at a auto parts place
