warrior or 400EX
#11
I own a Warrior myself I've outfitted it with works shocks, steering damper, and several other mods but I wouldnt consider it as race track worthy as a 400EX. I feel I have the superior trail machine (reverse is nice) If you want to race I'd overlook the Warrior altogether and go with the EX. You might be suprised as to the availability of a nice used 250R for around $3500 or so and it'd be cheaper to make competitive than the EX. Anyhow buy something and have fun.

I have a 1999 Yamaha Warrior and I really enjoy my quad. And for all those out there that say I haven't been where there was a 400EX, NEWS FLASH.
I have seen and watched a 400EX no I didn't ride and I don't care to. Because to me the 400EX is just something to keep Honda going. After all this is the first quad they have made since 1993. The Warrior has been around a lot longer and most of them are still going strong. And besides with a name like yours you probably weren't even thinking of getting a Warrior to begin with.

KiaserSosei - The forum stalker Good point though... Apparently, and admittedly he's not ridden anything but his Warrior.
Someone needs to remind 1BadWarrior that Yamaha hasn't "built a quad" since about 1987. That Brand new Warrior (and Banshee) are almost no different than the 1987 models. Oops, guess I just did.

Actually 86atc250r, This was his quote describing the ds650 in the bombardier forum under the tittle "bye bye to ds in the dust" . There is nothing bad about a 70's engine in a 80's frame that has never been updated. The 86atc250r, now thats a bad ***** bike , I still have my 82 atc250r,. just didnot have the cash for the 86 when it came out

Lets compare a 13 year old design to today, is that fare? Why has the warrior been out there for so long? Not because Yamaha Can't sell them. Let me know how you like that Xr400 Transmission with no reverse some time your hung up off camber or downhill with no wheres to go but backwards. If only you had reverse!

I think as of right now the 400EX is your best choice. I have rode it on an MX track and it id almost as fun as a 250R. But, most companies are coming out with new sport quads and if I were in your shoes I would wait or get a used Mojave or 300EX and play with it until the dust settles and you have saw all the new quads. If you get a good used quad for a good price you should be able to sell it for close to the same price you paid. Better than spending 6K on a 400ex and find there are better quads out there next year and loosing over a grand. Also, the Warrior is a good quad(I've owned two) but it is not a great racer. It does everything good but nothing great.
