Default lt-f250 neutral sensor problem

My 2001 lt-f250 has sporadically been unable to start because it doesn't think it's in neutral -- e.g. the green "N" light won't light up (and yes, I am in neutral -- I can push the atv forward). Another symptom of this problem is the the red "R" light won't come on if I put the atv into reverse. I have been unable to manually start the atv when this condition arises (which I can when the green "N" light is lit). This leads me to believe that I may not be getting a spark, either. Although I've also had the "N" and "R" lights fail even when the atv is running.

Anyways, this condition has been occuring more frequently and I need to do something about it. Does anyone have any ideas before I take it into the shop?

Thanks,
Doug

Your reverse light switch or neutral switch may be going out. You won't get spark if that's happening.
A factory service manual could help you diagnose and repair this problem if you're comfortable doing your own work.
