My Z 400 has a leak coming from the joint between the water pump and the crankcase. I tried to remove the pump to replace the O ring seal but the pump wont come off with all bolts removed, I suspect the drive gear is too large to fit through the mounting apature. Has ayone had to remove a water pump from this ATV yet? If so please advise if I need to remove the right side crankcase cove to remove the water pump. If that is the case, what a pain in the butt for such a small job!

Try twisting it or lightly tap with it a rubber mallet.
