fx4ranger4x4, did you ever do anything to your LT? If so, how did it work out for you?

TomM, you mentioned cheap and easy upgrade, shaving the head .020 or more expensive have head reworked for higher compression. Do you get the higher compression by shaving .020 off of the head? What else could be done to the head?

On my 86 LT, I had it shaved. The gain was mostly in low to mid range and comparable to going from a stock to aftermarket pipe. I had it done at a local machine shop for 26$.

I don稚 know much about other head mods except that most performance companies offer one for 70+ $s.

I tried a Prodesign Coolhead with a slightly shaved 22cc dome (because the dome wasn稚 perfectly flush with the shell) on my 91 LT but couldn稚 get it to stop breaking up at high rpm痴. At that time though my piston was in bad shape and compression was under 70psi with the original head on, so I am going to give it another try after I get it broke in good with the new piston/rings.

TomM, let me know how that works out for you.
Are you taking pics of the zilla as you build it?

Ya, I知 going to take a lot of pics while I rebuild it, I値l post them on my pic page here as I go. I知 going to start in a month or so, its still around 90 in the daytime here and I値l be working outdoors mostly. I was waiting for a new workshop to be built so I could do it in the AC but I致e got 95% of the parts now and other people are dragging **** on building the workshop so I知 just waiting for the heat to break now.

There seems to be very little input on the Coolheads here so I値l post a thread with the results once I get it running right or give up.
