what year 250r is fastest?
#3
if you are talking about the honda 250r then the 86 was the fastest year. I am told that they took that engine straight from the ATC250r, unchanged. That engine was the "short rod" and it revs faster than the 87-89 engines. Before they killed the 250r production, Honda was trying to make it have an 'electric' powerband so they were adjusting different engine peices every year. The 89 engine brought back some of the 86 parts; it was said to be the best engine to have b/c of the updates and combinations from the years of production. Mine is an 86 and has been up against newer, more modded R's and it hasnt lost yet. Some may find it hard to believe, but its true.

"what year 250r is fastest?"
I know its the SUZUKI forum, but most of the time- all bikes are talked about in every forum.
AND, by reading this, seems like you are talking about the HONDA 250R not Suzuki LT250R. When you refer to it as a "250R" it causes confusion b/c HONDA has used the name "250R" longer. Suzuki never refered to their quad to the public as the "250R." They called it a Quadracer 250. True, their technical model name for it was LT250r. Honda's technical model name for their bike was, of course, the TRX250R. But, to the public for marketing purposes, they called it and capitalized on the "250R" name, because they originated it and people were familiar with it. Suzuki knew this. "QuadRacer" really is a good name for a high performance bike. I wish they would bring it back, but I dont think their lawyers want them to....
As for as your question then, i have heard that the earlier ones were faster, but not as well mannered. I think the later models had powervalved cylinders. But the suzuki guys could answer this question better than me.

With Suzuki LT250Rs, the later models are much faster.
85 is the slowest
86 is a hair faster due to different porting and a bigger carb and 4th and 5th gear are slightly higher
87 The motor was different than any other year. I'm not sure exactly what is different except for the cylinder, which looks the same but has a different part #. I'm pretty sure they did have a power valve and they do have 6 speeds. More than likely 87s were faster than 85-6 models but slower than 88 and up.
88 and up had a power valve and 6 speed instead of 5 and are considerably faster than the 85-86 models. I dont think anything changed from 88-92. I know the cylinder and tranny are the same so they should run the same.

'87 has the power valve and a larger intake port that the newer years. It was the same intake as the 500 of that year. '87 potentially would be the fastest one. Of course, I own one so it must be the fastest in the world.
