Default LTZ250 - Crashed & Repaired...Expensive Parts

'04 Z250...crashed badly during it's first hour of use. Purchased for my wife, I let my brother in law ride it at Hungry Valley on the 4th. He flipped it backwards on a rock face, it tumbled 5 times on solid rock. Flattened bars ($65), broken front master cylinder ($60), broken levers ($30), broken steering cover ($40), broken headlight ($113), cheese-gratered plastics all the way around ($600), misc ($100), it even chewed up the outside edges of all four rims. I elected not to replace all the scatched-up, but still functional components. Dealer actually had the best price on all the parts, 2-day turnaround.

I found out that you cannot use aftermarket bars because there is a square hole in the stock bars for the ignition switch assembly to mount into.

Sounds like you got off easy, it could be alot worse. Tweak a frame, an axle or an a-arm and you will be paying alot. Also the Z400 has a hole in the handle bars too for the starter switch. You do not need that hole, you can get aftermarket bars.

Yeah, I rolled my Z250 last Saturday and bent my whole handlebar assembly and when I saw what the prices were I said the helk with that. I took my bars down to my grandfathers fab. shop and had him staighten them out. I do need to get new plastic sometime though, I flipped it one other time like a week after I got it and scratched the helk out of all the fenders.
