Default How Do I adjust the Brakes on My LT500 ?

Hey, I had to put new axle bearings in and a new brake rotor... I get it all back together and it rode fine yesterday, now it tries to stop its self... The breaks won't release or are adjusted too tight or something ? Anyone know how to adjust these things ? Or maybe a common mistake with putting things back together ?

sounds like air in the system . loosen the blleder screw and release the preesure . if it goes free then it need to be bled . did you take the lines off ? or just undo the brake caliper ? it might be out of alingment then . if you took the lines off then make sure it has fluid in the resivoir , pump up the brake lever (push it down then releaes it ) hold down the lever then open the bolt on the master cylinder (while the lever is down) , then tighten it and release the lever .if just fluid came out then go to the rear line and do the same . if fluid came out then go to the bleeder and repeat . keep checking fluid level . if that dont do it let us know .

hey, a guy i chat with on AIM said to check the fluid level, so i did that and it was way too high so i took some out, it still did the same thing, u ride it for a few minutes using the brakes when needed and it would keep getting tighter and tighter till it locks up, so i loosend the bleeder nut and let a litttle come out and tried it again and its been fine ever since... !?!?!

I had this happen to me before, apparently the master cylinder would not release pressure, and it would consistiantly get harder with every pump. You could rebuild the master cyl, but you could pick up a entire unit off ebay for about $30. I got a Raptor front master cyl for my ZIlla and it looks great as opposed to the stock black unit.

Could be master cylinder since it wasn't having a problem until you rode it.... or was it???

I just put new pads on mine, and had to really back off the E-brake, as it was set up too tight.... Now I've got a block off plate so it won't happen again.

Good luck
