Diffrences between '85-'86 and '87-'92 lt250r
#2
Differences o' plenty. 85-6 had different swingarm/bearing carriers than 87+. The seat was slightly different but I believe the plastic was the same. Can't tell you on the frame. Biggest diff was engine, where the 87+ had a powervalve motor, a reed cage you could take out without removing the cylinder, and a 6 speed tranny. I wouldn't think of buying an 85-86 LT when the newer ones were far superior. Sorry, 85 owners But the earlier ones did have a better bearing carrier and chain adjustment setup than the totally retarded one like on my 87.

I hate to agree with the Rascal when he says you shouldn't buy an 85-86 (like mine), but he's right. The oddball 87 and 88-92 models were much better. The powervalve engine is considerably faster stock and has more potential. There are also alot more parts and upgrades available for the later models. The later models also had better suspension. However, remember that these bikes are all at least ten years old so condition is more important than anything else.
