86 lt250 quadracer, worth $400????
i just drove by a quadracer that was on the side of the road with a forsale sign on it. there was a phone number so i called. the guy wants 400 for it. He said it has a new carburator, brakes, and new top end. the thing thats wrong with it is that the bottom end needs to be rebuilt. this is the story the guy gave me.
he said he put a new clutch in it and babied it for a while to break it in. then when he went to get on it one of the clutch gears or something sheered off. he also said the kickstart gear is sheered and also the starter gear. then he said all the gears are sheered in the lower end.
these quads are like 2000 in the want ad in mint condition around here. is this worth the 400 he wants or should i get him to go lower or is this quad garbage? he said the quad is fine other then this.

Probably worth it if you can do all the repair work yourself and the plastics and top end are on good shape, but if you plan on putting it in a shop you would be better to spend 1500$ on one that runs. In fact, you might be better of to just spend more on a running one anyway just to save the effort it would take to fix. You could easily spend a ton of $s in the bottom end, add that to the work to repair it yourself and you may not really save anything.
If it was any problem other than one in the bottom end I would say definitely buy it, but like I allready said lower end parts are very expensive.
