Reverse is pretty handy if your in thick stuff. Other than that, they're both about the same I think. Out of the woods though, z all the way.

2004 ds you really need to fix that list of yours and just keepp the ones that you have now beacuase that line tells everyone you have like 100 atvs and dirt bikes stuffed in your geradge

as i tell everyone go with the z there straight up beasts there a little faster then the ex's and they have reverse and for trail riding how many timea do you need reverce in one day haha and the z's just look a lot cooler so z all the way

I'd avoid the Z until it is absoultely clear they have cleaned up their junky frames, and decided to buy some qualitly metal. If frames are cracking on fairly new bikes, I'm sure it will be a huge problem is 3-5 years when the metal starts fatiguing.

It's not the metal in the frame itself, but even then it's just a few welds. I haven't had any problems with my frame and I've landed pretty hard from more than a couple of jumps. For even rough trail riding, the Z will hold up remarkably well, and if ther is an issue with the frame (and you haven't raced it) waranty will cover it. So don't even worry about the frame for trail riding.

400ex because it is more reliaable but it doesnt have reverse, as for speed the z400 isnt that much faster than the 400ex but it is a lot quicker off the start, ive riden both for a little while ad i got used to them and i liked the z becuase phew it was quick when i first rode a 400ex i tohught it was a ***** but it is a great trail riding quad ad fun to wheelie with i would say 400ex but im probably the only one who thinks its better cause speed isnt everything

The atv mechanics I talked to at the dealer said that all of their problems came frome the actual frame breaking an inch or 2 in front of the a arms. It will only get worse as the steel weakens with age.

Tight woods ONLY....if you don't need reverse, I would go with the 400ex. More useable low end power is always better in the tighter woods. High speed woods riding, I would have too go with the Z400.
