Default extended warranty,,, yes or no???

are the extended warranties worth the money? We've got a z250 and for a 4 year extended warranty it is $450. You must have your atv serviced every 3 months to keep your warranty valid. and they also say that includes having your valve clearance adjusted, the dealer I purchased mine from said a normal service job would cost around $140. Every 3 months!!!! What do you think? Everyone I talk to says thats pretty extreme on the valve adjusting, most recommended once or twice a year. I'm thinking about forgetting the warranty and servicing it myself. Is this dumb?

Not a dumb question.

What I have seen from the extended warranty companys did not impress me. Say your riding and 3rd gear breaks. They will fix the gear but nuthing else. They wont pay for gaskets or seals or anything that should be replaced when a motor is torn down.

If I take a motor apart I always replace the seals and gaskets since they are used.

i am a automotive service manager, i deal with thosae companys on a daily basis. i have been doing it for almost 7 years now.
i have seen ONE contract pay off. NEVER buy one. they are a waste of money. let me repeat. they are a very good money maker for the insurance company. BIG WASTE OF MONEY for you. NEVER, NEVER waste money on one for anything. they won't ever cover what failed anyway, it takes them forever to fix anything. if they do cover it, they won't cover the oil, or seals, or antifreeze. they NEVER cover diagnostic time.
I really hope anyone never buys one of those contracts. not just for cars, atv's, or motor cycles. just don't buy one anyway. of that 450 bux, 1/2 of it is retained by the dlrshp, the other 1/2 goes out of town. lot's of times the salesman gets a big commision for selling them.
i guess ijust don't feel like i can say it enough.
PLEASE DON'T WASTE THE MONEY!!!
i don't want a fellow atv'er ripped off!!!
thanks for listening

My dealer told me that Dealer service is not required.

You can do all your own work, keeping reciepts and a journal. Maybe Suzuki is different.

I bought the contract because A) I had the money, and B) the Raptor has a histroy of Tranny and starte motor failures, and I figured one starter motor one way gear replacement would pay for itself....

well here is my advise is to buy the extended warrenty, I myself work for a dealership that sells honda, kawasaki, suzuki, and yamaha. now to say the dont cover anything is a bunch of bull. I myself see the manufactures cover things that should not be covered but I guess that its up to the local dealer on how hard they work to get your warrenty covered. now most times when they dont cover a claim its due to rider neglect. suzuki was great when I broke a frame guess who covered it? I myself dident buy an extended warrenty but they did take care of me. oh and If you work in an automotive industry instigatr then how do you work with these companys? because they are two different ends of the world most people dont go to a car dealer to get there atv serveced do they? the things that the warrenty covers are against manufactures defects so if you bend a shiftfork trying to drag race and dont use you clutch shifting then guess what your warrenty is not going to cover it. they dont cover wear and tear items and it doesent cover oil changes but it will take care of you if your frame breaks or something else serious goes wrong a frame replacement is about 795 for a frame and 10 hrs of labor(flate rate time from suzuki) so its up to you. Is it worth it who knows you may never need it but you may need it someday also. Oh and if the do fix somthing like if you "break a gear" they do pay for the whole job including gaskets and all the parts I know I see it first hand. But the decision is yours.
