Default Handlebar question Ozark

I am a new ATV owner with a question about how to tighten the handlebars. They have become somewhat loose and I know that there must be bolts on each side to tighten them. The question is: How do you get the plastic cover that has the key mounted in it off to get to the bolts or am I doing something totally wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know it may not seem like it, but I do own a wrench!!

Heheheh....without a wrench, it's going to be tough tightening the handlebars once your remove the center plastic. It was really easy removing them on the Z250's....All we had to do was remove the notched ring around the key unit (turn counterclockwise by hand), and locate the plastic retainers which are usually facing down toward the fuel tank. Take a small phillips screw driver and push the center of the retaining clips in, then remove both of them. Ours lifted from the tank side first, at which point your going to have pop the lights out of each of the indicator rubber boots....now your all disconnected and should be able to remove it the remainder of the way. I guess at this point, call a friend with a socket set, or some wrenchs to lend you, so you can tighten those bolts your trying to get to...(Suzuki = Metric) ;-)

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the answer on how to adjust the handlebars. Actually I have the wrenches and now that the hurricane has passed I followed your lead and tightened them up. Thanks for the help

Once you get the plastic center piece off the handlebars there should be a clamp that the bar goes through. On the clamp there are 4 bolts. Just get the bars placed where you want them, and tighten up those 4 bolts good and snug. And then put the center plastic piece back on you are ready to go.
