Suzuki LT250r information

Hey iam looking at an LT250r for my first quad. I've read around and iam 99.9% sure that this is what i'll get. Iam about 5'8" and 160lbs. Iam looking at one that needs a little work for around 800-900. Any particular year i should get? I've ridden quadsports 230's and blasters, i find them too slow. I currently have a cr125. I mainly do trail riding and powerlines, the torque proabably wont be an issue. Just gimme as much info as you can on the LT, thanks.

My best friend rides an 87 LT 250R. Its a great quad for the money. He bought it for around $1500, but the top end went because he went too long on an old top end (and I mean old). We bored it .40 over and went with a Wiseco piston and now that kicker is hard as a rock and the bike starts first kick. Its quicker than a Honda 250R in a drag, but the Honda handles better. The 86 didnt hae the powervalve like the 87 so low end may be a problem. The 87 has plenty low end. Check the frame for cracks, especially by the A arms. Its a great quad, enjoy it!

I have never complained about the low end of my 86. Many people seem to gear up though, so that will hurt low end

Definitely get an '87 or newer. You'll be glad you did. There's a lot more parts available for the '87 and up, and especially after '88. The '87 has a different reed cage than the 88-90. 91-92 got a new swingarm and linkage and are defninitely the best years, but anything above '87 is the way to go.

Dont overlook the 85 and 86. Mine beats pipe z400's up hills in Glamis.

The PWK35 did seem to add more snap and top end. I originally had the stock carb that was bored to 36mm and it worked good, then I tried a 38mm quadzilla carb. IT added more power, but it was physically big and hit the engine case. Also it leaked like crazy. Finally I totally switched up and went to Keihin and even though it is smaller than the other carbs, it seem to put out the most power. I love it. Also, it fit on the quad better than the 38mm and any bigger Keihin wont fit in the engine.
I did however have to put a Boyeson float bowl on to make it fit right, otherwise, the vent tubes of the stock bowl, hit the engine.
I would like to find another 35pwk and have it bored to 36.5 and give it a try as well.
