LT250R questions
For your LT the stock pipe will give as good of bottom end as any pipe, really. The stock suspension is okay for rocky trails, if you get wider A-arms you'll get more travel and softer ride, but will be wider which is a point to consider for your trails. I've taken mine through everything and it works pretty good.

Lrd makes an adjustable pipe for the LT that can be tuned for lowend(have one, works well ). Depending on your year make sure the powervalve is working correctly, if it stays open or opens early it will effect low end. Also, proper jetting of the pilot and needle will give lowend gains. Raising the compression will help too(i.e. milling the head and recalculating the squish band)
As far as the cost of a topend rebuild:
if its just rings not piston...... ~$55 - $65
if its piston and rings.... ~$110 - $130
If its piston rings and an oversize bore (not a standard hone like in the above examples)..... ~130 - $160 (this figure assumes shops rates locally for me, you could be very different)
