Z400 or 300ex
I recently got a KXF, same thing as a Z and I love it. I was the same as you in that I had to have reverse so the 400EX wasn't even considered. I used to have a 250X which is basically the same as a 300EX and it was a nice quad but it in no way is comparable to a Z400. The new school quads are just awesome. My 400 keeps on pulling and pulling powerwise, yet it can still putt down a trail. I don't think it is at all tippy, it just feels planted when you go around a corner.
People who say they are tippy and don't have much more power over a 400EX are just disgruntled.

Can the KFX lift it's front end up as easy as the 400ex? I hear the Z400 (assume I also talk about the KFX because they are clones) can lift the front end up very easily, but the 400ex beats it on that particular category...

I've only ridden one 400EX and that was when they first came out. The one I rode had a cam and had good power. I'd have to ride it back to back with my KXF to really tell any difference.
The KXF & Z400 are exactly the same except for color and the black nose piece on the KXF. My 400 is the easist to wheelie quad I have ever ridden. It has good power and is snappy but smooth at the same time. It loves to rev and it will pull it up in third when you are rolling along. I've wheelied it in 5th when riding down a dirt road at a little over half-throttle. I went over a small crest, punched it and pulled back, and wheelied as far as I could to the next corner. What I love is it's not like the old style 4 strokes that go flat on tiop end. It just keeps on pulling and reving. It's a lot like a two stroke but just so much smoother and easier to control. Nice thing, unlike my Quad Racer, is the 400 feels right at home slowly picking its way through a rocky river bed or in the woods at first gear right above stalling. It still takes some clutch work since it has a light flywheel and is easy to stall, but once you get used to it, you don't notice. The light flywheel is one of the reasons it revs so fast and feels so snappy.

jed250,
the Z gets its nose up pretty easy, almost as easy as a 400ex. the balance point on the Z isn't as good as a 400ex though. i can wheelie a 400ex for a loooooong time. my KFX, once i hit the balance point yeah...just takes a little to find the point.
the 300ex is a great quad. modded correctly, it can keep up with alot of "sport quads" in the woods.
