Default Those with trouble bleeding brakes...

I bled brakes for the first time EVER last night. I bought one of the "one man bleeder" kits at Autozone and it was easy as pie. It cost me about $7.00 and saved me a ton of aggravation I'm sure.

The one I bought looks something like this: bleeder kit. Only mine has a magnet on the container which was great because you can hang it on the brake disc.

One word of caution, make sure you keep the reservoir full of fluid. It took longer than it needed to because I failed to fill it up in time thus allowing more air into the lines. No biggie tho...

Just thought I would offer this little bit of info, hope it helps!

Thanks for the info! I guess something like that would work on any type of vehicle? It looks like basically a hose and a cup..................

For about 20-25 bucks you can get a vacuum pump that works for alot of other stuff as well. With the 'one man bleeder' from autozone (which I have as well), you need to press the brake and open the bleed valve at the same time - tough for one man to do on a quad, impossible on a car. With the vacuum pump, you connect it to the bleed valve, pump 15-20 lbs of vacuum, open the valve and the vacuum pulls the fluid from the reservior through the lines and out the bleed valve, along with any air that may be in the lines.

Really? I didn't have to do the two at the same time. I followed the directions to the letter. I loosened the bleed valve 1-2 turns, connected the plumbing and pumped the pedal. That's it.

YOU ARE A LIFESAVER. I made it Autozone last night just before closing and had the brakes working again in about 20 minutes. I spent probably 3-5 hours earlier in the day to only get mush out of them. I just wish I would have checked here sooner. THANK YOU again for the heads up!!!

An old friend of mine was a mechanic for quit a few years and he showed me how he bleeds brakes. He simply opens each bleeder and lets gravity do the work. The last time I did brake work this method worked just fine. It only takes a few minutes and the fluid will come out of the bleeder in a steady stream. Once this happens tighten the bleeder and you're done.
