trailer plans
If you have a place near you that sells trailer parts (such as axles, wheels, springs, light kits, hitches, fenders, etc) AND they sell trailers just go and take pictures and measurements. I did this and they didn't have a problem with it since I just bought my other parts there. The only real key thing needed when making a trailer is where the center of the axle is in relation to the square frame of the trailer (not including the tongue). If I recall you want 60% in front of the axle and 40% behind. So if you box was 100 inches long the axle center would be a 60" from the front. This gives a fair amount of tongue weight and will prevent trailer wobble. I've seen them built where the axle was centered to much, they wagged behind the vehicle like a dogs tail.
The width is usually done by the axle, 4', 5', 6' or whatever they sell. Unless you build a sled trailer (wheels under the deck, wider trailer on a smaller axle).
If this is an ATV trailer (one bike) I would consider at least a 5x8 size.
Good Luck, you can save some money building one. And they're pretty easy. I've built several over the years. My next one will be a sled model with the short fat wheels. More deck room, no fenders to tear off, and 2 side loaded ATV's in a 10' length.
