Irritating 230E
This is my girlfriends quad, and I CANNOT get it to happily idle. If i move the air screw, the idle goes up or down too. So when i do finally get it to idle, and i give it some gas...it revs up and stays up for a while and wont come down fast enough. Cant seem to find a happy balance between the idle screw and the air screw. Do i have a jetting problem or something? Any input is appreciated.

Is the needle worn out? Is the slide all chewed up from the idle adjusment screw. You are suppossed to open the throttle when adjusting it so it doesn't dig into the slide. If all else fails get a carb rebuild kit for $25. I'd also check for any air leaks like Vinson581 suggested. An air leak will kill a motor in short order.

Yeah, cleaned the crap outta the carb, needle and floats are brand new. Jetting perhaps?
Im quite sure there are no airleaks also. It'll rev up a bit and then come back down, my experience tells me most air leaks will kep it revved up and it wont come down.
This is irritating.

ok you checked the obivious, i have the same problem with my 230, what happens i think is that the throttle cable is sticking and not retraction all the way after you punch the throttle, then when you are on and off of it and stay off of it it slowly returns to normal position.
what happened to me was:
bad cabel, got a new one and was fixed.
1. make sure the slide opens and closes freely. full throttle to stop(idle)
2. if it takes a little longer to return to idle after you realeased the throttle, say if it is real quick to return to 1/3 throttle but not to idle, there is your problem.
3. get a carb rebuild kit, old carbs for a bike like that are bound to need rebuid
4. instead of pushing the gas to see if the the carb opens. pull the throttle the other way towards you , and look to see if the slide moves, if so there is your problem, and will need to lube the throttle cabel, or better yet replace it for the few dollars it costs.
hope this helps
