lt250r vs. tecate
#1
i just bought a 1986 lt250r, the mods i have on it are fmf exaust and silencer, wiseco piston kit, boyesson reeds, uni air filter, motion pro twist throttle, and some other mods. my neighbor just bought a tecate, im not sure what year, and wants to race me. i was wondering how my quad would compare to his stock tecate on an open stretch on dirt. if anyne who has already raced these 2 quads before can tell me the result i would really appreciate it

The Tecate 4's were extremely fast in fact ATV Sports magazine (not the one currently being published but another which was formerly called 3Wheelin) stated that the top speed of a Tecate 4 was 70 mph which is actually the speed of a stock Banshee. The Tecate 4 was not the best handling bike though so it will really depend on the rider.

I had both an 87 LT250R, 89 LT250R, and an 88 KXF250R Kawasaki Tecate 4. Stock you wouldn't have a chance. With your mods you might take him off the line, but if his motor is fairly fresh, he will kill you in the end. The Kawi was a very fast and quick machine. When the power comes on watch out, you literally have to ride sitting on the gas tank. I could wheelie in every gear with a simple twist of the throttle(not using the clutch to help). It takes quite a few mods and alot of money to get an LT to take a Tecate. The Suzuki mechanic said the only way would be to have it ported and polished with a new pipe, silencer, and then maybe. The LT250R had a very conservative porting and power delivery from the factory. They were designed for a more trail friendly power band, whereas the Kawasaki came with the killer top end screaming power like the KX's (dirt bikes) All in all who cares who is faster, ride safe, and ride for fun.
