Default Z400 Engine Kit

I'm looking into getting my Z400s engine rebuilt. Not out of necessity but out of desire for more power. 440, 453, 470, etc... There are several options as far as vendors go. Anyone have any experience or suggestions? Any experiences, rants or raves would be greatly appreciated. I live in San Diego so the Southern California area for vendors is a must.

Trinity
Alba
Ct Racing

Thx

Im on the same type of quest right now, and this is what I have found. There are basically two "highly reccomended" kits. Yoshimuras 450 and anything sparks racing. Im sure there are others but these are the only two I have not heard anything negetive about. I spoke to both Yosh and Duncan Racing today and was deeply discourage by their pricing. When you factor a Carb upgrade both kits come out over $3k with Duncans being nearly $4k for the 470. I cant remember what sparks where but I remember thinking I couldn't afford it. One thing I have found is that most advertised kits have week points or missing componets like carborators and when you add all the missing componets or fix the week points you almost double the price of the kit.

Sparks makes the fastest Z's around. I would stay far away from Trinity, Alba, and Ct Racing...

Hey,

LRD engine kit

Check this one out. I found the link on z400 website. They have the 440 kit plus a 41 FCR carb for 1852.79. That seems like a great deal.

You can add a FCR carb ($450), a DRZ base gasket ($10), two Hot Cams ($250), an ignition ($200-$400), and get plenty of power. This will be a 12:1, stock piston. I have all the above minus the CDI, it rips. Its easy to do in your garage, you can do it one at a time. And later when you want more power, you won't have to buy all this (it is a must with a big power motor (carb, cdi, cams)).
PS the LRD is plus labor. they do great work, I just wanted to point it out.

I would call Rich Yakkie at Yakkie Racing. The shop is in Ramona and if anyone knows which is the best its this guy. He's an outstanding mechanic and his rates are very cheap compared to bigger shops. I don't know the number off hand but you can call 1-800-San-Diego and ask for Yakkie Racing. they will connect you and the call is free. He did my 440 kit on my ex 2 years ago and the thing still runs great!! tell him Dave with the 440 refered you

Sandmudandhills, Have you or anybody else talked to Lazarus Sommers over at GTthunder. On there web site under R&d they have a z-400 were they were testing parts and dynoing the results. And from there results It looks pretty Intersting, I just might try to duplicate these results except add an drz-e base gasket.
