Default Thinking About Getting a LT250R

UPDATE: I've found another one for sale for a good price. I have called him and he stills have it.

It's a 1987. He putted a new transmission and clutch in spring. New top end in august. DG Silencer. Nerf Bars. It also have pro wedge winter tires (That's what I want the most since it's going to be my winter quad)

He's asking 1800$ negociable for it. I should be able to get it fot 1550$. He's about 30 miles from me.
He's going to send me pictures online tomorrow. I will post them.

Would it be a good deal?

I think there is not a lot of aftermarkets parts fot 85-87 LT. Am I right?

that's not too bad since i paid 2500 for mine and put alot more in it

oh and yeah a Tecate 4 might be faster than the LT or TRX, but try finding quality parts for it. and by the time you had a Tecate 4 you could put more money into the LT or TRX and make it faster than the Tecate, plus i heard the handling on the T4's are horrible.

right about the 85-86, but the 87's are pretty much just as easy to find as the 88-92. and in my opinion i think the 87's are a tiny bit faster. the only real difference i found between the 87 and 88-92 is the reed valve and the induction part that goes into the cylinder, it is modeled after the 500R on the 87's

My 2 cents, don't buy it unless he'll go down to $1000. I personally will not buy any machine that has had major work done to it by the owner. Why? Because most guys don't know what they are doing and mess things up even more. Heck, even my Quadracer got screwed up by the former owner because he replaced the rear carrier, put it together wrong and dished out the rear disc. I was able to use that against him and he came down $300 of his "firm" price. Thing is, that was readily appearent and visable to the naked eye. Internal engine stuff isn't. Just be patient and look for a better Quadracer that has never had the engine taken apart. They are out there, you just have to be persistant. Nothing worse than buying a quad that blows up of suffers some major problem and then you are stuck fixing it, especally when it was the previous guys fault. Another thing, buy as stock a quadracer as you can find.

Tires are cheap and you can go buy brand new ones. Don't buy the quad because it has cool tires.

The guy didn't replace the trans, it was done by a mechanic

If everything works correctly, I suppose it's because the mechanic didn't mess anything

It's hard to find an old quad without engine works. If it haven't been worked, it will probably blow up real soon

check out the frame and engine number on it...mine was listed in the paper as an 87, and i looked at the numbers on it, and found it actually to be an 88. Look on the frame tag, and it will say LT250R and then another letter in a box. Mine was J and thats the letter for 88. Dont just go by the color of the engine, because my bottom end is blue and the top end is bare metal..but everything is 88.

either 6th gear is messed up, the guy has no clue what hes talking about and cant even tell it has 6 gears, or its an 85/86 with only 5 gears and the guy just doesnt know what a powervalve is. Again...just ask for the numbers on it, and you will be able to tell which one of these it is. If 6th gear is messed up, i personally would not buy it.
