Proper kick-starting technique on a zilla?

stop pull starting it you will damage the trans!!!!!Get it on the compression stroke,I wish we lived closer so I could show you so I'll ex- plain the way to do this to my knowledge. The way I do it is to slowly kick it over to get the feel of the stroke, then let the kick starter go back up to the up position and (very) slowly by using your ankle muscle to push the kick starter down till you feel a slight bump, then raise the kick starter up and give it a good kick and it should start. When I first got mine I had to do this,it's kinda like kicking over a Harley.Using this technique it should start the first time.I know this sound's complicated but it does work.....Mike
P.S also yes check the jetting, the more you tune that in the easier it will start and the faster it will be.
P.S.S. uise Klotz Benol in it you won't regret it trust me it's all I ever used and have had my .140 cylinder crack on bothside's of the cylinder from the intake to the tranfer port's and was able to still ride it back to the trailer after making a run down the quartermile, and I still have the piston and it is still in good shape no score marks or nothing,I can still use the piston, even the sleeve was not harmed so the sold me on Klotz Benol.....

75 for the pilot sounds wrong - sure it's not a 25?
Check the reeds, broken or not sealing reed pedals will make it hard to start.
When I start mine I do not have any particular position I try to put the piston in. I work the kickstart lever to about halfway down (almost horizontal) and then kick it thru. The speed at which you stroke the lever to the bottom has a lot to do with whether or not it starts. I routinely start mine while sitting down after its warmed up. Technique and state of tune makes that possible, it might help that I'm 6' 2" 240......

I am 6'0" 300lbs, so kicking isnt a problem. I will check the reeds out, they are pyramid reeds, they expensive to replace? I am certain it is a 75 pilot. I have a box full of smaller ones though if you think its too big.

I will check today. The a-arms are square so I will say '87, but its got a DR cylinder(7-bolt) bored .040 over with midrange jetting and a 40mm PWK(guessing) carb, and fmf pipe/silencer.
