Default suspension pre-load

I have five way pre-load adjustable front shocks and from the factory they came set at two I have just recentley adjusted them up a notch to three and I was wondering what exactly I was adjusting because I was thinking that I was making them stiffer and therefor reducing tipping feeling in the corners=more stability=ease of powersliding
Could you please tell me as much info as to how to set them for how I ride and just general data?

Please respond.

Default suspension pre-load

stiffer preload will help reduce body roll when cornering hard and will help reduce bottoming out. It should help you slide easier.
