Default Lt 80 carb problems

My son has a 2001 Lt 80. It only has probably about 25 to 30 total hours of ride time on it. This past summer I noticed that it would sputter and act like it was running out of fuel with the choke off and the motor warmed up. The longer it was ridden the better it got. Now this winter he has to ride it with the choke on all the time because if you let up off the throttle it will die like it runs out of gas. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what do I need to do? I was going to start by pulling the carb and cleaning but didn't know if there was a specific area I needed to check. Also who is Jack that everyone seems to have had such good luck with on motor mods for the 80 and how can I contact him. Thanks

Jack ( LT80 on the forums) is in Glamis right now, he will be back in another week or so. Have you pulled the carb off and cleaned it out? could be a little dirt in a passage or jet leaning you out and making it run like that.

Thanks I will keep my eyes open for Jack on the forum when he gets back. It seems like everyone is happy with his work. Does it help power everywhere or does it just put it all in one area? My son doesn't race but I know he would like more performance.

If it wont idle at all, its probably got a plugged pilot jet.sounds like it isnt used much(25 hours over 3 years), and the gas dries out in the carb and leaves behind some deposits, which make their way into the tiny pilot jet. If it just idles poorly, check idle rpm,( may be too low), or the air mixture screw may be out of adjustment.

dito on what honda buster said.....I've had that proplem a few times..and i just pulled out the pilot jet out and shot some carb spray thru it. Sometimes that wouldn't get it so i had to use a fine piece of wire to help it along...
