Ozark 250 throlle trouble
#1
I can start the ATV with the choke lever in the full down position (toward the rider). ATV is in neutral. As soon as I apply throttle the engine dies. Even just a touch of throttle kills it. no throttle. no ride. Idle speed seems normal.
The owners manual is worthless. It doesn't illustrate which position of the choke lever engages the choke. Regardless, if the choke lever is full up (away form the rider) the engine won't start.
What gives? I really want to avoid a trip to the service shop.
Thanks.
Roger

That is correct up=choke off, down=choke on
This might sound dumb, not trying to insult your intelligence, but make sure your parking brake is off and also have you waited until the engine warms up to take the choke off or go to half choke.

Thanks guys.
Confirming that I can only start and idle with the choke full on (and parking brake off) helps. Thanks for confirming my suspicion that the choke was full on.
With this info I think that likely the carb is gummed up. Probably only getting gas through the choke circuit, no pilot circuit abd that the main jet is clogged.
This ride is hard to shift too. Any ideas about that?
Thanks in advance.

I think it is the way suzuki has their carburators set up. I had a suzuki motorcycle and it did the same thing. I had to let it warm up for awhile before I could use the throttle. Try that and I am sure that it will work for you.

start it up with the choke and leave it on and then start to do something else close by. listen to your quad and wait to you here a major idle down. walk over and start to turn off your choke . it should be warmed up by now. as for the shifting ,to get a smoothe shift you can buy a country cycle hydraulic clutch and it will be an manuel clutch but somehow it will still be a auto clutch too. So if you friend gets on he can ride the auto clutch without pulling the lever but if you want to get on and show off then you can use the lever and shift better
