Eiger Rack Capacity
#1
I am going to be picking up an Eiger 4x4 this weekend but didn't see any information on the rack capacities. Since it will be used for hauling out white tail deer in the fall I want to make sure the racks on the Eiger are built for this. Any information from someones owners manual.
Thanks

Rack capacity is a myth. They rate these things but I don't understand where they get their numbers. The Eiger will pull out 2 deer with a big oaf on the back out of almost any hole. I've done it. Did she squat? of course.
I you put a moose on your rack and you notice something bending, get it off.
Now get out there and play with this thing, deer season is over.

I agree with Eiger on the rack weight issue. I have hauled half a moose out on my King Quad, were talking both hind quaters on the back and a front quater and ribs on the the front rack and this was not a small moose. He had a 57 inch spread on the antlers and weighed on the hoof around 1500 pounds. When we dropped the meat off at my buddys meat shop it weighed almost 500 pounds for the part I carried. Did it drag? You bet, that was the roughest ride I have had so far and I burned an entire tank plus half the reserve getting it back to the truck(15) miles. I have also carried whole caribou and a few bears on it as well and have not cracked or bent the racks.
So I would not worry about a 150 pound deer doing any harm to them.
I miss deer hunting, we have deer up here but you have to take a boat and head for the Islands and the cost is high when you are bringing home 5, 50 to 80 pound deer. I can hunt moose for two years for the cost of one deer hunt and the return is much greater even if you only get one moose in two years. AlaskaBoy.

Alaskaboy,
Are moose good eating? I've heard different stories. I own some property at 7500ft elevation in Northern Utah. It has a small abandoned beaver pond at one corner. There are always moose in it. I do a lot of archery hunting for deer and always see plenty of moose. My experience is that you don't mess with the cows with calves, and don't get between a moose and it's water hole if it's coming in to drink.
Out here they're almost at the top of the food chain, down from mountain lions. They are not afraid of you at all. I wouldn't think it would be difficult at all to bag one. The hard part would be finding a trophy. You probably don't have too much trouble at all in Alaska.
Good post about the racks. Suzuki should use your story in a commercial.

Read the thread "eiger problems" and you will understand why Suzuki won't want to do that. traumawave would then think it's okay to load a car on them racks then blame Suzuki when they fail.
I would like to see this tho.

Moose in my mind taste alot like beef, just very lean. I use it in place of beef for my recipes. Depending when you get him like all animals if he is the rut he will be somewhat strong tasting and then you make lots of hamburg and mix it with beef suet. As for getting a moose in Alaska, it is getting harder and harder to find a legal bull as the regs keep placing more resctrictions and pretty soon I will be looking for a 90 inch bull with 10 brow tines and he has to be cross eyed.
I have tried many times to upload pictures but they never go thru, I have resized them but to no avail. I will keep trying to figure it out.
I agree with Eiger about the Suzuki not wanting to do that. I hold myself responsible to damage to my wheeler and I know I am exceeding the weight restrictions but I am doing that on my own. If they did something like that somebody would try and if he got hurt or killed it would be the end of quads with racks. As for using situations like that I remeber a Polaris add about the Magnums and Caribou hunting and something about the realibity when you are out in the boondocks. I wonder if I could get a car on there?HAHA,AlaskaBoy.
