Default Does an Lt 250 rate well against new quads?

I was just wondering how an old Lt 250 would do against all the new sport quads coming out. I figure that a 2 stroke can hang with the thumpers but how about the handling. My reason for asking is that i want to find a low buck quad that wont get spanked by all the new stuff if i fix it up a bit.

i just bought a 92 lt , for the same reason. i love 2 strokes, and u cannot!!! i mean cannot, beat the price of a used lt. even if it needs some work. i do like honda 250rs better, but the engine in the sook is more my style, just the handling is alittle worse.

You will get out handled and out accellerated by a YFZ or 450R, but will be in it for 5 grand less.

With just a couple of mods though you'll be ahead of piped Z400's.

Ive got about $2000 into my bike, and that includes what I paid for it, and it is faster in hill drags than piped z400 or 400ex. Havn't raced a yfz450 yet, but piped raptors just barely beat me.

Unless its just completely !@#$ed, dollar for dollar you just cannot beat a used LT. You wont be the fastest, and you wont be the most nimble. But you also wont be left in the dust.

I still have alot to do on mine as far as mods go and I have been able to beat 400ex's, and z400's in the dunes without pushing it that hard. The big 4-strokes can't get near the power to weight ratio's of the 250R and power and weight is all that matters in the dunes.

Couldnt say it better myself! I have $1200 in my bike and there are a ton of new parts in it, including a bore job and piston, and a new rod and crank bearings. I absolutely love it!

I've got 1500$ in my LT250. I'm sure it will take a stock YZF or TRX450 with good traction conditions. I ran a stock YZF in wet sand and only lost by a tiny bit. I was still spinning out in 4th long after his hooked up completely and still he barely crawled away from me. A skilled racer would have likely beat him badly, all I did was pin the throttle and run through the gears. In handling though, I'm pretty sure they both have me beat badly. But then I could make mine handle as good and still not have spent half what they cost in stock form.
