250 QUAD SPORT
#3
There really are some dipsticks around offering ill informed comments !!, any quad can be a piece of junk if it has been abused and thrashed.
I know and ride with several 250 and 230 owners. They have had great relibility and fun from these machines, they have good brakes, disc's all round (can you say that about a blaster ?) decent suspension for there intended use and have been totally relable.
As with any quad manintence is important, look for one that has been well maintained and is in good overall condition.
Problems to watch for:
1) The swingarm bearings are on the weak side, if allowed to pound out there can elongate the frame members where the needle roller bearings are housed. Not the end of the world but a pain to fix.
2) the front end a arm "bushings" are in fact all needle rollers, these can be pricey to replace, plan on pulling em down once a year to clean and regrease, gone easy with the pressure washer around the pivots.
3) Use good quality oil and change it regularly. The 250's can run a bit on the hot side when really worked hard. We are working out an oil cooler modification for these quads.
Drop me a line at crainic@ihug.co.nz if you are interested.
these are good fun bikes, buy wisely, remember that they are 10 plus years old, and you'll be ok.
General comment: good first quad for the kids or casual trail riders.
