Default LT250R No Start Dripping Fuel

Guys,

Just took home an LT250R, purchased this off my buddy. I got it started took one ride, of less then a mile. Got home it stalled and wouldn't start again.

The pulg looks to have a little carbon build up, and I am running 50 to1 ratio with the gas and oil. I went and got some new pulgs, and this didn't help either... Can anyone help me here? IS the float stuck maybe? Also, it leaks when the choke is off...

Thanks guys!
Austin

Do a compression check and get back to us with the numbers. And yes, the float could be stuck or set too high.

Ok, I did a test when i got home... After a few kicks 3-4 it I got it to right above 60 lbs. This seems really low...

So with that in mind seems like it's time for a rebuild... What would you folks sugest to get the most power out of this motor? I don't have anyone local to do the work, so I was thinking of sending it to Trinity...

If 60lbs is all you can get out of it, then there's your problem.
As far as performance goes, it just depends on how fat your wallet is. From a shaved head to a turbo and everything in between; it's up to you.

50 to 1 is a relative lean gas to oil mix. As the numbers get closer together you put more oil in. In other words, if you use a 1 to 1 mix, you would use 1 gallon of gas to 1 gallon of oil. Hmmmm now that would get the EPA bent out of shape!!!!

Doc,

What I would like is a naturally aspired motor... A good port and Polish, new exhaust... Please feel free to give me your feed back. I am relatively new to two strokes, so any info would be great!

Thanks!

If its leaking gas then either the floats are stuck or the needle valve isnt working properly.....take the carb off and clean it out.. Set the floats to the bike manual specs. Check the taper on the needle valve for wear and to see if any junk is caught between the valve seat and the needle. This will usually the cause for gas overflow.

I've heard more bad than good about Trinity, just FYI.

What year is your LT? The 85-86's are alot trickier to port than the PV engine. Make less power too.

Commocozy, about the only thing I can say about a performance two stroke is they don't make a bunch of torque so you have to wind them up. Any winder likes a ton of air going through it. So any mod you can think of to give it air will help a bunch. Things like a good aircleaner, bigger carb, port timing, good pipe will help you a bunch. Most of these things will narrow up an already narrow two stroke power band, so it will be up to you to decide what you want your quad to run like.
As far as a shop to do the work. I'm just not qualified to tell which shops are good and which shops are bad. I just don't know. I'm sure there are tons of people on this board that can tell you a good shop to go to. Good luck, and have fun.
Oh, one other thing to check. It's a long shot but.................. Cut the fuel off to the engine by taking the carb off or draining the bowl. Take your plug out and shoot a little oil in the hole. Redo your compression test. If you had a ton of fuel in there you might have washed the oil off the rings and lost compression that way. It could be this but 60psi is way low, so looks like time for a rebuild.
