BOUGHT IT - 02 VINSON W/PLOW 125 MILES FOR 4 GRAND! NOW WHAT???
#1
Took the plow off and got a chance to ride on a dirt trail. Expected more poop when gassed, as did not throw a roost like I'm used to on a Polaris Sport 400 2 stroke, but did get up and go and kept going! Plastic cracks are from a kid that test rode it into a tree at a slow speed and cracked the bumper barely visible and about a 12" crack in the left front quarter and a small cut near the left floorboard. No frame or other body damage. Looks like new and has never seen anything but snow plowing and 1 small trip in the dust. I don't think it's even been in for its after break-in checkup, as I think it should have more power and less hesitation being a 500cc. I think it needs new front brakes, as they are very squishy but the rear locks right up. I would guess the guy plowing his driveway just used the front brake 1000 times and never the rear.
Everything works; 2wd, 4wd, hi, lo, reverse, lights, etc.
Anyone want to buy a barely used 48" Moose plow? Will probably sell to buy other accessories.
Thanks to everyone that posted info on their Vinnies and the info on used ones. I think I made a good choice at a decent price. If I don't like it once I get it on the trails this spring I'll sell it for probably more than I paid! The local Suzuki dealership just sold an '03 Eiger manual for $4200 in a matter of a week and it had 200 miles on it. A guy traded it in for an '04 Vinson.
Once I get the manual I can probably go through it myself vs. taking it to a mechanic at 60+ bucks an hour labor!
Any opinions or places to purchase cargo bags, clutch kits, pipe, etc?

You might look at the several posts on add on fuel filters and cleaning the carb. might help with the performance issue.
Change the oil then and listen for lifter noise. they might need adjustment.
The ride the heck out of it.

If you weren't so far away i'd take ya up on that plow.
A 4 stroke auto is not going to take off like a 2 stroke. Theres more to life than acceleration and thats where the vinnie excells. But she don't do bad in the acceleration department.
Trading an Eiger for a vinnie seems too small a step for the money. Unless he wanted to get out of the manual tranny.

eiger2, I agree, different world, and with a 2yr old now, my 2 stroke wild riding is over, and I'm happy with my choice. Would have bought an Eiger just the same if I saw a hot deal like this one.
I have been looking at those prices for skid plates and boot protectors. It blow me away at how much they get for those, which I see you thought the same thing and made some yourself. Did you just take off the stock plastic ones and take them to a metal fabricator and say here, make these out of diamond plate?
Does anyone on this forum make them and sell them? If so, I'd be interested in doing that or finding a place to have them done. I would imagine the most important ones are the boot protectors and rear diff protector???
My first purchase will be a rear bag/box with a built in seat. Where does everyone go for these? I've seen Wally World come up, Cabelas, Rocky Mountain, etc. Our dealerships around here rape you for that and any other accessories.
I believe it's a Moose Plow, 48in, hand controls, blah blah blah. I see that stuff adds up too by the time you buy the mounting hardware and the hand control. How much do you guys think I could put an add up for on the whole setup? Obviously shipping is out of the question.

Imade mine after one of the stock ones broke. I'd sell em but thats not allowed on the forums. I'd need a vinnie anyway. Go to a metal shop and get a piece of scrap diamond plate and use yer stock ones for a pattern.
