Quadracer Gearing
#1
Hi guys,
I just bought me another Quadracer last night. It's an 86 model that seems to be mechanically sound but could use some replacement plastic.
Anyway, the motor is fast, much faster than the 86 I had several years ago. It has 18" tires on the back and is geared awfully tall it seems. I checked and the front is a 15t and the rear was 42t (I think). What is the stock gearing? I can't remember. I'd like to go back to some 20" tires at least.
I'm thinking of getting several countershaft sprockets and trying them all anyway. They go down to a 12t don't they. I'm not interested in top speed so much anymore.
Sorry for the long rambling, I guess basically can anyone tell me what the stock gearing is? I'm thinking 13/39 but that don't sound right.
If it's not too much trouble, what sprocket combination and tire size are you guys running?
BTW, anyone interested in swapping twist/thumb throttles. I have a twist and would like to go back to a thumb. Never could get comfortable with the twist on the ATV's.

I think that stock gearing is 12/42. At least it is or my year(92). I run 12 front and a 38 rear, I think... it came off the rear of my friends Z400. It seems to work well. I have considered adding a tooth to the front, but well see. Hope that helps.

One on the front would be comparable to around 3 on the back, have a look at the gear ratio changes. Assuming you use a 42 rear.
42/12 = 3.5 : 1
42/13= 3.2 : 1
And changing one tooth on the rear.... assuming the 12 front.
42/12= 3.5 : 1
41/12= 3.41 : 1
So you can see the difference in gearing a tooth on the front makes as opposed to the rear. If you want to figure out your ratio before you buy, its driven(rear) divided by drive(front).
Hope that was of some help.

I put a fatty on mine like a month ago, After a little prob with the fit I was really happy with it, the power increase was well worth it and the throttle response is much better. The sound is loud but you get used to it, screams...like hell drag racing.
