I haven't ridden my MudLites in sand yet. The deep, cupped lugs would probably do one of two things: work really well or constantly bury you. I personally would think they would do quite well, though.

About the sand issue... from my experience, unless you have a super high-horsepower machine that needs paddles to put the power to the ground, tread on your tires has been a relative non-issue.
On my Jeep, I had some 50% tread mud-terrains that did pretty good in the sand, on my Toyota I had some 20% tread all-terrains that did very good in the sand. By far the most important key was to AIR DOWN.
Some other guys had brand new Boggers or Mickey-T Baja Claws (both have VERY aggressive, deep lugs with stiff sidewalls) and they tended to dig rather than float.
Is a quad going to be that different than a full-size 4wd rig? Why would it?
