need help with a '90 lt250r
#1
I am new to this whole two stroke thing and need to know why my '90 lt250r doesnt want to start. The guy i bought from has it bored .60 over ran about 15 times since re-ring, ported jug (intake and exhaust), head milled .20, boysen rad valve, 38 mm mikuni carb, fmf exhaust and runs on 32.1 aviation fuel.
I can kick the hell out of it all day long and only get it to cough every now and then but if i pull it and pop the clutch it starts. Any ideas?

What does the plug look like after you kick the heck out of it? Wet? Dry?
If dry, check carburator and fuel tank for restrictions.
If wet, check plug for spark. Take plug out of head, put wire back on it.
Ground the plug on the head holding it with insulated pliers and kick it over.
If there's no spark, you have electrical issues. Refer to manual as I believe you can
take some ohm readings on some components.
Check all electrical connections and make sure your kill switch or on/off switch is not shot.

I think'n you have a electrical issue. When you kick start it maybe your engine is not getting power to your spark plug, but when you pop the clutch, it creates spark. I would take apart your body and look at all your wires. Have Fun!

Id check compression first, if he knew he was selling it, those could have been the worst 15 times the quad has ever seen. But any of the advice given here is bang on.

This may sound od, but it may be in the way you are starting it. Do you use the choke?
I can start my LT250 any day in under 5 kicks, but my dad, brother, wife, etc have a hell of a time starting it. Sometimes it just takes a special touch.
When you are kicking it, just give it a slight bit of throttle.
