Can't help you there, I just send mine to a local guy. I may even do it myself next time. Im sure someone else here could tell you.

A standard rebuild will run about 150, a new spring about 70 and a revalve another 150. I've heard good things about MX Tech and Works suspension's 'heart transplant'. I got a 89 rear shock rebuilt by Elka with a new spring and it's alot better than my 86 stocker. Elka is in Canada, so shipping it to and from might be a little expensive but mine was coming from up there anyway so I can't tell you how much it cost.

the important thing to find out is if the shaft is pitted. I thought mine was ok but I found out it was not. If you shaft is pitted it will need to be re-chromed and that can cost about $175 on top of the $125 for someone to look at it plus the parts needed to fix it. At that point it probally better to just do an aftermarket shock.

For you all in California I found a really good place in huntington beach.
