Eiger shift on the fly 2-4WD
HEY! I did some experimenting last night on my Eiger... you CAN shift into 4wd while in motion just like in my Jeep or Toyota AS LONG AS YOU ARE GOING STRAIGHT AND STEADY. I suppose if you were spinning the tires uphill and threw it into 4 you'd F some things up, but it seems the t-case in the Eiger operates the same as any truck.
Definitely not talking about shifting into low. Don't get that idea. That would be pure stupidity, or at least a test of how much money it costs for fixing/replacing your t-case.

The mechanism for the front wheels is in the front diff. All the parts move anytime the quad moves, powere isnt sent to the front wheels though. Follow that cable down into the diff. I have shifted out of 4wd on the fly and heard a clank, I dont do that unless it important.
NEVER shift low to hi or back while moving. I found the best way is to stop, shift to neutral, then to hi again. If the trans gets caught between ranges the rev limiter kicks in too.

I always shift in and out of 4WD while I'm rolling. Never when I am spinning or going more than a crawl (5 mph and under). Most of the time, it is while I'm rolling towards a mud hole and the person in front of me is just about out (when I don't have to stop and wait). I talked to a couple of "quad mechanics" and, for what it is worth, they said that as long as you are not spinning or flying, it should be ok. The owners manual recommends you should stop completely.
