HEAD GASKET BLEW!
#1
i went riding today with a few buddies on this big circle track on the side of a steep and long hill.i went to make one last run and it started smoking white real bad.i knew it was antifreez burning.so i took out the plug and it had anitfreez on it.i was putting a load the motor pretty pad all day running up that hill, but it pulled it fine.ran good all day till then.is the dealer the only place i can get just a head gasket?how do they blow out?is that the only place that will let antifreez into my cylinder?im tired of this thing breaking.im going to fix this and then if it breaks when i take it out after this then im gonna pay it off and sell it and buy a 4 stroke.(i know i wont like it).i just want a reliable quad.

It’s the only likely place. The other possibility would be a crack somewhere in the top end letting water into the fuel/air passages or the cylinder. Make sure you torque the head bolts down right. Heat it up let it cool down and check them again.

It could leak through the base gasket but I think it would go mostly into the crankcase and quit running before any significant amount got into the cylinder.

Not supposed to but I don’t think it will hurt. I marred up my head gasket for the LT500 a little when drilling out the bolt holes for the bigger studs. I used a little Permatex to hedge my bet, haven’t fired it up yet though.
