Default My compression seems low 87 LT500

I have a 87 LT500 new topend just 25hrs on it, I did a compresion test once it was together had 135psi (WOT) kickin now 25hrs later i did it again an only have 110psi(WOT) whats up with that. My head is stocker port work has been done i've not degree wheeled it as of yet so i'm not sure where i stand there. I been considering buying a cool head, read too many troubles with the stock one an i've not really got access to a good machine shop here in canada Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated Thx.

Chilli,

Have you pulled the head off to see what the bore liiks like yet? You may have scuffed or chattered the bore.
Maybe the rings diddnt seat? I dont understand the degree wheel thing........
Mr. J

Why is it a bitch to kick? If your kicker hits the stop on the footpeg you are trying too hard. All you need is about 1/3 of the travel of the kicker.

I'm not a big guy, and I can start mine cold with my butt on the seat.

The reason for Mr.J's hard kicking is the fact that the bore is bigger, and may have had head mod's done,I can stand on my kicker and have it not move until I put the boot to it.I weigh around 180 lbs.,and on a built 500 engine you need to kick a little harder then stock, and not with a tennis shoe.I have to agree on the ring's,may have not seated right or scratche's in the cylinder.Did you check the end clearance of the ring's before putting them on the piston? To do that you take the ring's one at a time and put them in the cylinder with the piston to set them square, then with feeler gauge's check the clearance at the end's.If my memory sever's me right it should be .010, the both of them.If they are not at that spec just take a file and file the end's to meet the spec.
