well 88 to 90 have a head with one more bolt and smaller reed cage. I feel 89 is your best year but all of them are about the same if you put work into them. top speed in high 80s for a piped zilla. FMF pipe is junk not much different then stock, Crank Bearing boss can be weak so if it has play in it you need bottom end taken appart and i belive brass or steel inserts to keep the bearings tight. Check it drives strait at the speed it travels and the width it is lott of people mangle the front end.

Oh yeah when you go riding make sure that chain is tight. Because once it slips or is stretched to much count on getting your case rewelded. Othier wise I think they are great quads. They can get you out of any mess with little fuss. They are like any thing elese. I you take care of them they will take care of you. The only problems we had with my buddy's 500 is at high speed jonts it would fry the pistons. That was with bigger than stock jets. It liked to get hot for some reason. So on went a Cool Head 4 years ago and NO problems since . That quad really responded to that mod and no more top end siezures.
