Would sucking extra air make it not want to pull hard under load? I can sit there and rev it and the engine seems fine, but when I get on to ride it has nothing.

Now I go to start it and it starts fine, but after it runs for a few minutes it starts running very high rpm's by itself. It just start going and won't stop until to get it shut off. With all of this new stuff on it, what could I have wrong that needs to be tweaked? Also, I have ridden it a couple of times, and it seems like the engine is making plenty of power while revving it. But when under load, when riding it, it doesn't seem like it is making any power and doesn't excellerate hardly at all. Please advise. Thank you.
The high idle 'generally' indicates a leak.... DO A LEAK-DOWN TEST! Before you grenade your motor.... At least you'll have piece of mind if it's not leaking.... (Cheap insurance)
Also, the lack of power could mean several things... Since you've got a new carb, hows the jetting look?
Lean? Based upon the high idle, that could be another symptom of way too lean jetting.

That's a good starting point. Be careful... a lean motor can easily go Kaboom!

the jetting is probably it, idling high and lack of power could mean not enough gas

Thank you to everyone for your input, I am going to change jetting and check for air leaks and let you all know how it goes. I have just spent a lot of money on parts for this thing not to work. Thanks all.

I would love to see someone who makes 100hp on 350cc stock bore Banshee. Is that with nitrous and how much did they spend? Were they running nitro methane too? LOL!

Yagerzzz,
Great posts! I didn't pay too much attention to the open class back in the 80's but that makes total sense. I remember riding my first and only Quadzilla back in '89. It was totally clapped out and felt way, way, too wide. Especally for the trails we were on compaired to my Quadsport 230. Like you said, nowadays everybody is making their stock quad wider when in fact they are just becoming compairable to the stock Zilla.

I also agree with the posts that the Zilla was more of a drag or dunig quad then it was for MX. If you lok at the Zilla frame you can see additional tubing underneath the lower A-arms that acted as extra weight to prevent unwanted wheelies. Also, the Zilla was considerably longer than the stock LT 250R to help prevent unwanted wheelies. The best 500 Suzukis were the LT 250R conversions equipped with 500 motors. Then you had the handling to match the engine.

There arent any 100hp 350cc stock bore outhere, if you want to reach 100hp you will need at least a 4mm stroker crank. The best 350ccs put out around 95-96hp on alky no nitrous, very very few Banshee owners use nitrous. If you are talking about the engine alone, getting one to hit these numbers could be done for around 2000$$ -+ a few $$ depending on who does the work.

I put over $2000 in my Banshee and I'm not even close to those numbers. They sound a little inflated. I could believe 70-75hp, but 100hp for $2000..... yeah right!

Coolhead + custom alky domes - 300$$
Porting - 600$$
Case matching - 100$$
Set of Wiseco Pro-lites pistons - 150$$
V-Force reeds - 220$$
Heavy duty clutch + billet clutch basket - 300$$
Trued and welded crank - 100$$
UPP Intakes - 60$$
Adjustable timing plate - 35$$
Engine mods - 1865$$

My numbers are pretty accurate, i said engine alone remember. Now to this you will need to add about 1000$$ for carbs and a set of drag pipes.

My 2000 Banshee has the following mods:
Ported top end kit with cool head and dome pistons- Rossier Engineering
Dual 28mm Kihn PWKS
V-Force reed cag/reeds
Trued/Welded crank- Rossier also
Timing advanced 4 degrees
Dmc Pipes
K&N power kit with airbox power lid
Pro Flow intake
I have not dynoed it, but I feel like I'm in the 55-60hp range on premium pump gas. I have ran 50/50 race/pump and 100% race gas (Sunoco Fr 102) and it didn't make any noticeable difference. Of course I didn't play with jetting or try different plugs, but I felt like the little performance gain I might get wasn't worth the extra $2 a gallon. With stock gearing and 18" tires I gained about 5 mph on the top end, with the mods, over stock. It'll run 80-85mph. depending on the surface, wind, etc. The shorter tires took a couple mph on top, but they woke it up on the low end, which has always been a weak spot on my Banshee. The mid and top end power is pretty wild, but I was expecting a little more than what I got for the money spent. I guess thats what stroker kits are for. I see myself selling or trading my Banshee in the future in favor of one of the newer four stroke quads. Man, technology has gone along way on the four strokes and they are reliable to boot. Did I mention electric start too?
