No spark on LT80

Hello all, I am new here and have a problem that maybe you could help me with. I have 1988 LT80 that i recently picked up from my father in-law. The quad was not running when i got it. I took it apart and installed an oversize piston and rings, cleaned the carb, and went over it. After assembly it started right up and ran great for about 3-5 minutes. Troubleshooting revealed "no spark." I have checked the coil, coil wire, voltage reg, start button, ignition switch and rotor/stator. all seem to be ok. I suspect low voltage from the stator but don't know the output specs. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Fred

Well Fred, I'd pull the flywheel and sand the stator and flywheel. That's fixxed the low voltage problem before.
Under the hood, the wires comming up from the motor. the red/black is ignition. The white/red is battery. Make sure these connections
are not switched.
Piston arrow toward the back (exhaust),,right?? (ppl commonly put the piston in backwards and score the exhaust port)

Thanks for the response. I installed the piston with arrow to the rear(exhaust) but it did throw me for a minute having the exhaust be to the rear. I have not rebuilt a 2-stroke for a long time. I race and rebuild dirtbikes but have 4-strokes. I also cleaned up the casting flash on the exhaust port. I did pull the flywheel for inspection but did not try sanding the parts. I will try that and let you know if it works.
Thanks,
Fred
