I haven't noticed the news regarding small displacement atvs recently, but am interested in an lt160. I thought they quit making these years ago and then i found a 2004 at an online dealer. Suzuki doesn't have any info an their site so I guess there isn't a 2005. My son has already outgrown his 50 and I'd like to get him something he can ride for a few years. Thanks for any help.

 

HOw old and big and mature and skilled and and and. The 160 is a good little quad for trails I use to ride my dads before I bought my quads It took me almost everywhere I wanted.

 

Great intermediate bike for the kids.

We had the old one with racks. Whenever I had chores to do, it was the bike I always picked. Sold it to a friend, and they are still riding it years later. Get the newer one without racks. It is 50 lbs. lighter!

It is a good intermediate quad[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] All three of my kids ride it and it's also powerful enough to haul around an adult, who is or isn't, familiar with atvs. I know ours, will be in the family for years to come.
I think '04 is the last year Suzuki is making the 160. I could be wrong, but, I thought I read an article on it. Dan

 

Thanks guys for all of the advice and info. My boy is 7 and has been riding with me since infancy in a backpack, and solo for about a year. His 50 stalls on hills even when he's going full out at the bottm. I end up running up and pushing him to the top. I'm afraid if I buy the 80 he will outgrow it quickly as well, and I would like something he can shift for more torque.

 

The Honda 90 is on the large side for a kids bike. I am constantly impressed at the places this machine will go. And, it's a significant 100 lbs. lighter than the 160. A 350 lb. bike seems heavy for a 7 year old!

My son turns 11 this week, and he is still on his 90. He rides it EVERYWHERE I go, including on the 4X4. When the rocks get to big, we just carry the bike over (one advantage of a lighter machine!). He is tall enough (5' 3") to graduate to the 250EX, but doesn't yet have the weight to handle the larger machine. (If I still had a 160, he would be on that already.) If your son is just 7, he could spend quite a few years on a 90. Think about it. If (or rather when) he rolls the bike, 100 lbs. lighter will be a big advantage.

 

That is a very good idea. I just checked out the trx90 and it has gears too. Is this bike made by honda or another asian manufacturer like the polaris and arctic cat?

 

I think a 90 would be a better fit for him also. The 160 is a middle size quad, that adults can pretty much ride confortably. Like Recon said, safety wise, the 160 is too big. He probably rides with you, but, if he can't move the quad off him on his own, or control it with his own body language, then, try something smaller. I won't get into what the recommended sizes are. As a parent you need to make the decisions. Just don't go to big to save a few hundred dollars. I think he would like a quad that he can handle with his own body language. Not a quad that is to big in size for him. Better safe then sorry. IMO

 

Fozz, You posted about the 90 as I was replying. The TRX 90 is made by Honda. I don't have the 90, but, a Honda 70. We have had it for about 5 years now and it's been trouble free and ridden by all my kids. Honda's are also one of the most reliable atv's out there. Very dependable. I don't think you could go wrong with it. There are also other similiar sizes out there too.

 

Honda has been building that engine since the 50's. It is time proven an bulletproof! The bike is solid and well designed. Only down side is a pull starter, and the bike is cold blooded on startup.
