Rear Shock rebuild?
#1
Please tell me your experiences in rebuilding rear shocks on ealry models Lt250R. Early as in 85.. Would i spend more money rebuilding, my rear shock? Should i just buy a new rear shock? Money is a factor. But i would rather make the rite decision...Rite choice..

I know that some shocks are not rebuildable and some stock shocks
cost just as much as aftermarket ones. Ive never rebuilt a shock yet
I would do a lot of research on costs of replacing it compared to rebuilding
you may have new parts inside but you still have the same old shock casings
that might be a little worn inside and not last as long

If its rebuildable, then I would do that. Simply because you say money is an object. Obviously a new shock would be best, but if its in decent shape and rebuildable, then you can get it done so it will work way better than new. I am going to a race this weekend with Santo, I'll check with him to see what he says about it.

the important thing to find out is if the shaft is pitted. I thought mine was ok but I found out it was not. If you shaft is pitted it will need to be re-chromed and that can cost about $175 on top of the $125 for someone to look at it plus the parts needed to fix it. At that point it probally better to just do an aftermarket shock.
For you all in California I found a really good place in huntington beach.
