I would wait for the new z450 . I dont know it will come out but it will be worth the wait. Z400 are great but it cost a lot of time and money to keep up with a 450.

 

I am currently looking at getting the z-400 if i could get time to go and pick the dang thing up. The ones i am looking at are all 04's they are such a steel i can get one Out the door for only 5k. The diff. things on the 05's are shocks and a bigger carb. at least i believe it comes with a bigger carb.

 

7 changes for the 05' model(well, 9 if you count colors & graphics & the $5799 price)
1 - Aluminum front bumper & rear grab bar
2 - Bigger carb (37mm) w/throttle-position sensor wired to the ignition
3 - New cams
4 - 9 drive clutch plates(the 04' had 8)
5 - Aluminum shifter
6 - Magnesium clutch cover,ignition cover & valve cover
7 - New front shocks w/reservoirs & new valving

Sounds like it will be worth the wait for an 05' even if it will cost you more than a left-over 04'

 

true. this is the one machine with no major weaknesses. not saying its perfect, but its d@mn good

 

It just depends on what you are using it for.I would also reconend the z250

 

well ive had my 2005 Z400 for about 2 weeks, what a great machine
it;s quick it handles very well on rough terrain and reverse is a must...

Here's a guy just coming off a mild 4x4 utility.I doubt he's worried about keeping up with race bikes right off the bat.

 

It's a great quad. Get the blue 05 or save the cash and get an 04 and upgrade the hell out of it. Upgrading is half the fun!
