King Quad test drive review.

Finally my local dealer got one. I have waited so long for this day and I must say I was not that impressed.
Visually the machine is very well thought out. Nice touches except the cheesy diff lock button...
Warmed her up and took her out. I love the no choke.. very nice. Power was way down than what I thought. Felt on par with the Honda Rincon but with better mid range.
Quad is very stable and very nimble. Low vibration, less than the v-twins amazingly as it seems. I realize that power will get better as its broken in but the same should be true on all models. Went and tried a brute force next. Well it is a Brute, power is night and day better all over than the king quad, but didnt feel any different powerwise than a p700. Brute had lots of body lean, the thing is absolutely huge...
Stiffened up the shocks and to me there was still too much body roll. I am not talking tire roll, I am talking mushy shocks... I also expirienced the low speed miss. As far as the airbox design goes, it looks like the inner fender is missing. There are actually three holes on the fender lip that looks like something was supposed to be attached there...??? Any way easy fix.
Back to the King. Would not wheelie unless a good tug was used. Not like Brute or p700. Handleing is spot on, jut with they would put the vtwin in the King quad frame...
Dissapointed in Maine. Nice machine, no way in hell is it even close to having the power of p700 or even my p650.
I guess I will have to see if Yamaha will do it right ...DOHHH!!!
PS, I didnt notice any hesitation on takeoff. Clutch hookup was very nice. Also has the nicest shifter I have seen to date.
Just one Guy and Wife's opinion

This thing will absolutely smoke a P650. It will definately run about even with a P700. My KQ has about 14 miles on it now. The power is amazing and keeps getting better as it breaks in. I was doing wheelies up and down my street with it tonight. I carried the front end a really long distance and at one point, I noticed the speedo saying 39 MPH as the front wheels touched down. I am not brand loyal and love quads in general. But, from my perspective, Suzuki certainly built a bike that could topple the P700 as king of the Big Bores. I must also mention that I love the Prairies more than sliced bread!!!!! I like the Brute Force, but I think it's just too big. The KQ is about the same size as a Prairie.

This week-end all companies shared us a total of about 30 quads to try and play with.
The IRS machines I tried were the Rincon 650, Sportsman 700, King Quad 700EFI and Brute Force 750.
In my opinion the best handling one was the Honda Rincon 650 , second the King Quad 700EFI, then the Brute Force 750 and the Sportsman 700.
The most powerful one was the Brute Force 750 and no doubt on that one (more than excellent bottom end, excellent mid-range and good top end), second the King Quad 700EFI (bottom end not very impressive, excellent mid-range and good top end), Sportsman 700 (good bottom end, good mid-range and good top end), and the Rincon 650 ( bottom end not very impressive, mid-range not very impressive, respectable top end).
My two favorite picks are the Brute Force 750 and King Quad 700. The Brute Force 750 has the quickest and smoothest throttle response, but the King Quad IRS was better at cornering. The solution that make it possible a have the most powerful and best handling Big Bore IRS quad came from Elka who had a brand new Brute Force equiped with its suspension upgraded kit on display, beautiful my friends and what a beautiful day it was!!!

This is my review.
I was able to get my KQ to 69mph but it was getting a little ruff to keep going. But it felt like I had more, but not a whole lot. I put 40 miles on it today, And the KQ handles awesome. When I turned the KQ turned. Very responsive and very little if any bump steer. On my Predator I did this 15 mile loop in 45 min. My first lap on the KQ I did it in 48min. Front suspension was a little soft, so I set the preload up one and did it again. My next lap was done in 46.5 min and felt very comfy on the KQ. The bottom end isn't like the V-force, but the mid range is better then the V. The V had a flat spot at mid range where the KQ climbed all the way up. I was very impressed with it today and I think with good tires I could go faster. The stock tires had too much side wall roll for the corners. But all in all, this KQ will give the Prarie a run for his money but give it a much better ride. I was not tired at all after 40 hard miles. Can'y wait for my Bighorn's.

I am not brand loyal. If I were I would have the king quad. Currently I own a p650, Eiger 5spd and an ozark. This was a production king quad. jus came in on Friday. Maybe its a dud I dont know. I can not attest to top speed as it was just a test drive at a dealership. I could only do back to back comparisons to other machines. Like I said I dont think anything with IRS wil"l out handle the King Quad. I would love to hear more peoples opinions on them. Only the people that have driven them and nt the ones who "saw" or "heard". I even got the dealer to say "well it wont beat any of the Brutes or p700's for that matter in a drag race" I believe this to be true from "seat of the pants testing" There was no line up so sometimes power can feel deceptive. IE I know the Brute beats the p700 in drags but doesnt feel like it because of irs soaking up some of the thrust.
In all honesty I find it hard to believe that the people that have driven both can say that the power is comparable...
That said, if I had to buy another quad tomorrow it would be the King Quad because of the handling next and a close second would be a p700 or twin peaks.
I remember when I had a Grizzly 600 and heard the 660 was coming out that that would be the machine for me... Turned out I was very dissapointed with the handleing and power so I got the p650.
What interests me the most is that lancems007 who now owns a King, and has owned a vforce says they are on par in power and acceleration. So I wonder if there was something wrong with the one I tried? Power wheelies were a no go../???

Everyone that has posted on HL has said gobs of power.
I am guessing Grizjeeper's KQ must be a Dud.
Kisssofdeath has been working hard trying to beat 50mph at 350' with his modded 650 (no internal mods). His is about as quick as a stock P700.
The KQ easily smacks down modded P650s by doing 52 at 300' (that is faster at a shorter distance). So, the KQ appears to be much better than a P700. The preproduction tests have shown the KQ quicker than a P700 anyway.

Lance, Thanks for all the good information. I was thinking about trading for one because of the irs and efi, either get more power out of mine or k.q. or b.f. , I think I have a twin peaks that isn't quite as fast as some of them. I would probably be happy with one like yours. There is always someone complaining about something. I complain about mine but don't run down anyone elses.
