Default KQ 700 Break in

I was just reading the manual and it says for break in, not to go over 1/2 throttle for the first 10hrs. 10hrs, you got to be kidding. I was past that in my first hr. I have never heard of a break in take so long. Do you think I could of hurt the engine? It still flies, and runs great, but I still only have less then 3 hrs on it. I was plan on racing it next weekend in Ohio against Mike Penland. Do you think I will be allright?

I'd get a few more hours on it, then change the break-in oil. Then you ought to be alright. Better safe than sorry!

I always change my oil and filter after the first hour of riding, then again at 10 hours. I keep dino oil (Honda GN4) in it for the break-in period, then change to the oil of my choice (Honda GN4 for my autoclutch bikes, and Honda HP4 for my manual clutch bikes). Consult your owners manual. You can't go wrong using the oil they recommend!

A couple of good articles on oil:

Even though I use Motoman's break-in method, I do still "heat cycle" my engine during break-in. Behind my house I have VERY steep hills. I warm the bike up thoroughly, take a short slow ride up to the hills, then bomb two or three of the hills at full throtle. I then park the bike, cool it off, and do the process all over again. (I would say doing a hill climb, is like doing a dyno run.) I do this for 5-10 cycles.

Go out to the garage and change your oil and filter!!!
