'85 LT-230 EXHAUST QUESTION - HELP!
#1
I've just been given an '85 LT-230. The bike runs great. It doesn't appear to have been ridden much at all, and who can complain - it was free. The bike sat outside. It wasn't kept in a shed or garage. The exhaust pipe is still in good shape, but the baffle at the end of the pipe has rotted out. Nothing's left of it, so the bike is really loud - just like running a straight pipe. So here's the question - am I better off going with an aftermarket pipe, or just ordering a stock replacement? I'm thinking that the stock pipe will be more expensive. Can I get the baffle seperately and just replace that? My big need isn't necessarily performance. I want the QUIETEST pipe possible, since I live on a farm, and the farm's owner doesn't appreciate the noise. Can you guys suggest a source/vendor for the pipe? Thanks in advance for the help!

Thanks - I didn't know such a thing existed. I ran a search on Yahoo though, and didn't come up with anywhere to buy such a thing. Are they common? Can you suggest a vendor? I know these questions might be lame, but any info. would be much appreciated.

Definitely watch e-Bay for a stock pipe. They are on there from time to time. Plus, with most aftermarket ones, you'll have to get a new header pipe also which you probably don't need. For sound puposes, the stock quadsport muffler is one of the best in my opinion. It's got a great deep tone but it's not nearly as loud as most aftermarket ones. They usually don't bring too much money either because everyone wants a high performance loud aftermarket one.
