Default 2005 King quad will not wheelie

I have a new king quad about 23 hours on it it does not feel very peepy down low. I know that that is what A lot of king quad owners have said, but I also noticed a lot of them said they could wheelie in low and high. I can not wheelie no matter what gear.
I am new to quads maybe I do not know the right way to wheelie. I am leaning back and punching the throttle.
I can wheelie if i put on foot on the back of the rack. I have to bounce the front once then nail the throttle.

Is my quad still breaking in and will get faster?

Is there some thing wrong with my Quad and I need to let the dealer take a look.

I know that utiltity quads are not for racing I jut wonder if mine has less power than others.

I am 5'10" and weight 210 lb.

You're not alone. I've ranted and complained since I bought mine about the same thing. You shouldn't have to pull up or use any special body movements to wheelie a quad with that big of a motor. Obviously Suzuki did something to retard low end speed to prevent wheelies. My TP700 and my BF would wheelie EASILY in low or high.

Others in here will tell you that their KQ wheelies but I wouldn't believe it until I saw it. Still others will tell you it's not a sport quad so it's not an issue. That argument is bull$hit because I want to use my four wheel drive AND wheelie if I want. And finally others will tell you that the low end is fine for them. These people usually have just come off from owning smaller quads so the KQ seems perfectly sufficient to them. Then there's the magazines that all say that the KQ has awesome power. My question is this, compared to what?

Bottom line: the low end on the KQ SUCKS and a fix is not looking too promising. It pi$$e$ me off soooooooo bad. That's why I would LOVE to trade it for a P/TP 700 or a BF.

Mine will wheelie in low with the rear shocks on the stiffest setting, but thats not why I bought it. Please sell it and buy a kawi if thats what you need it to do and spare us all the crying about what it won't do.

I'm trying, believe me. Please forgive me for the excessive nagging, but the KQ is the most unsatisfying big bore I've ever had. I agree though, no more complaining, I'll be back to a Kawi in no time.

Mine will wheelie in low range and it is the most satisfiying 4x4 ATV that I've ever owned so far.And I've owned a ton of them since 1983.

Cam650,

Looks like you've had a few larger 700cc machines. You say you like the BF and TP but why did you sell them? I have a Vinson and have been pretty happy so far but I need a second quad so I'm thinking of getting a 700cc+ machine. I've read every magazine review, forum, and know all the specs of these machines but still can't decide. I like the TP but I don't care for the looks and think I want an IRS machine this time. I would have thought the KQ would be pretty good but it sounds like you didn't care for it to much. I don't think I would like the BF because I ride a lot of crazy extreme terrain and have heard that one false move on the throttle and you're end over end. What would you suggest for me?

Why not just wait things out for a time until the aftermarket comes up with a fix for this? The stability of the K.Q. is superior to anything else out there, and that should count for something.

Whillieower,

IMO the TP & KQ are the two best 700cc+ machines. If you want a SRA they the TP is the way to go and if you need IRS then the KQ. If it wasn't for the looks of the TP I would have bought one but as for now it's the Vinson.

I can't wait until there's a shootout between the two but you're saying the KQ is truely the King. Could you give me and rest of us a little more details? Can you tell us what the KQ does better than the TP? I'm thinking that the TP still rules the trails with it's awesome sliding ability?

willierower,

Something happens to a man when he buys a new quad. He's very proud of it. Then he starts to believe his quad is the finest ever built. When others disagree he becomes defensive, maybe a little TOO defensive. I think you have that affliction. I've owned both a TP and a KQ. Have you? Have you had enough seat time on a TP to declare the KQ "eats its lunch"? Or is this your "seat of the pants" review? Before you get all worked up and we start spouting off at each other, I'm going to buy a BF on Tuesday. That means I'll be back on the "kawasucky" thread as you requested.

Outrage,

For the terrain you ride in, I would recommend an IRS quad. The KQ rocks besides the low end power. It handles almost as good as a SRA (TP/P). It's very smooth and comfortable. It's got EFI so you don't have to rejet for altitude changes that you could incur where you ride. I would recommend for anyone except those who require the most power they can get from a utility. On the trails the P/TP still rule, I assure you. The P/TP will always be dear to me. They're such great do-it-all quads. As far as power goes, the KQ is sufficient and much more powerful than your Vinson. But the P/TP and the BF will shred it in a straight line competition. You can actually wheelie in the water on a BF with little to no effort. I never thought mine was dangerous in adverse terrain, the throttle in my opinion is very controllable. In the end, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the three listed. I just have a beef with the low end power on the KQ. I simply can't live with it, but that's just my opinion. I'm giving to my wife. LOL
