Does The Eiger tow?
#11
Can anyone tell me the rated tongue weight of the Eiger? Already have tractors for heavy hauling, but taking implaments off and on really gets old. Just looking for something midsize, stright axle (not IRS) for hauling 1000 lbs and under and do some trail riding. Ive been told that you dont have to worry about trailer weight distribution as much with a straight axle, Whereas with IRA It becomes of great concern because the tongue is riding on the suspension. Any truth to this?

I pull a utility trailer with three guys riding on the trailer, and 2 guys riding on the atv, along with 2 deep cycle battery's on the rear rack. Depending on where the guys on the trailer are sitting, my IRS can get completely bottomed out on the stock settings. I haven't had a problem because I just craw along, and its soft duck hunting bottomland....no rocks to worry about. I think I would consider SRA if you intend to tow alot in the rocks. But if you can keep the tougue weight at a minimum (which is probably good for either suspension style), the irs would give more clearance. I just told the guys riding on the trailer to move towards the rear of the trailer, and I was back to level.. Hope this helps By the way, I chose the KQ over the Eiger for the EFI and diff lock, not the IRS. I really dig the simplicity of the Eiger's...They look like durable machines. My decision was made easier because I was splitting the cost with my dad, so $800 each more didn't seem like much. If I was buying on my own.....I would probably own an Eiger. They can all pull about anything with wheels, regardless of weight....IMO....but I'm no expert, and I may find out the hard way some day that I should have been more concerned with the recommended weight limits.

Most atvs can be loaded way beyond their capacity, and pull it just fine. Usually the problem comes when you have to stop, The brakes have to be able to slow down the load. When we where digging out our pond I used my 600 grizzly to pull a trailer that usually weighed around 1500lb, no telling what the tongue wait was, it pulled it fine but I cant count how many times I fish-tailed while trying to slow down.

If it has a hitch it will tow! Don't worry about the toung wieght it will be rated low but can withstand much much more. I owned a Yammy B.B. 400 and pulled a dual axle 16ft trailer all the time. App. 400lbs toung weight empty never gave me a prob. If you have 5-7lbs tire pressure the tires will cushion the weight. I can't say about a IRS but I know SRAs are tough!
I now own a Kawie, my brother-in-law has a Eiger, my frends own Hondas and they all pull great.

Thats the numbers I was looking for. With my logic I multiply that by three and still feel safe. I only wish the Eiger had a differentil lock on it. One would be in my yard as of now if it did. The 400 is all I need for my intended purposes. Then I would have to go to an Articat for that, It has same motor and transmission as the Eiger, but another grand more.

Tuned differently how? Does this mean loss of performance and will ride like a mule? Seems like Eiger could offer differential lock as an option. Anything Aftermarket to get-er-done?

They use different carbs and air intakes and I believe the timing is different. Also the tranny is sprung different. Add that up with the enormous wieght of the a/c and it makes the eiger the clear winner.
