Default Standing Z400 On End, Leeking Gas..

Hey all,

When i installed the new full length skid plate, and swingarm skid plate, the suzuki instructions said to stand the atv on end, also i have see people who store their atv's standing on end in the garage...

well when i did stand it on end, it started leeking gas pretty bad. I never could figure out where it was comming from, but it was like a slow solid stream of gas, not just a drip.

Is that normal? or should i be worried that there is a gas leek?

Thanks.

its ur overflow. nothing to worry about it is b/c ur tank was full or close to full that when it is tipped up it goes out the overflow through the lid.

Overflow from the tank?!?!?

Unless your gas cap has a leak, it is overflow through the carburetor, which is caused when the ATV is stood on end, causing the carb float to stick open which will drain the entire tank through the carb and out the overflow hose.

turn your fuel off at the tank petcock (if you can....my Vinson doesn't have a shut-off) and all you will have left is the minimal amount of gas left in the carb bowl to deal with.

I stood my bike on end once for washing, it was up for like a minute and a half and I had oil in my air box, and gas all over the place. I never stand it up anymore.

Make sure the fuel petcock is not in the prime position. That will make fuel run into the carb all the time, not just when it's on end.

Your fuel petcock is vacume activated when in the ON position. When you start the engine it turns on automatically, and off when you stop the engine........if it is working properly.

In the PRI position, it is wide open just like the ON position on any other bike (gets confusing). So, be sure your valve is in the ON position, and working properly. I have no problems whatsoever standing my bike up! It may leak a small amount at first (emptying the bowl), but nothing after that.

yeah the gas should not leak out the gas cap, it will leak out the overflow hoses on your carb, still nothing to worry bout, and like TexasRoadLawyer said it'll drain your whole tank if kept like that long enough, so make sure you shut the fuel off.

How do you shut it off?

It has "ON" "PRI" "RES"

No off.

It wasn't leeking a little bit, it kept leeking.
